6th April 2020
The global health emergency triggered by the spread of COVID-19 has not halted FS Italiane Group’s international cooperation. Indeed, on 1st April 2020, Ferrovie dello Stato Italiane and TCDD (the Turkish Railways) extended the validity of the Memorandum of Understanding signed in May 2017 by a further three years. The focus of this agreement is: training, specialist technical consultancy, exchange of knowledge on innovative technologies for railway development, planning and handling engineering services, supervision of infrastructure construction work, management and acquisition of trains, carriages and coaches, along with railway diagnostics services.
The Memorandum of Understanding is framed within the dynamic cooperation conducted by the two railway undertakings throughout the past 15 years, during which the FS Italiane Group has provided various consulting services to TCDD. In particular, Italferr and Italcertifer have recently contributed to the development of projects of high international prestige, including the construction of two tunnels beneath the Bosphorus, the Eurasia Tunnel and the Marmaray CR3, the railway link between the Esenboğa airport and Ankara, as well as the certification of several high-speed and conventional lines.
Moreover, in September 2017, a Joint FS-TCDD Working Group was founded, followed by two railway training contracts carried out by FS International and focused on Turkish personnel concerning Maintenance + TLC & Signalling courses and a Capacity Development Programme.
The proposal to renew the agreement was put forward by TCDD precisely to testify to its satisfaction with the services offered by FS Italiane but also to follow up on the activated initiatives and to aim towards further possible collaborations in the near future.
