Hellenic Train has officially completed the training and certification programme for train drivers on the new Coradia Stream electric trains, reinforcing its commitment to fleet renewal.
As part of the strategy to introduce modern electric trains, the training programme took place from 9 to 19 March and comprised several key stages: training at the depot, practical experience under real operating conditions on the railway network, and certification examinations specific to this new type of rolling stock.
At the end of their training, ten train drivers were certified to operate the Coradia Stream trains and will now proceed to the next phase of operational testing, scheduled to take place from March to June. These tests are essential for obtaining approval and focus on verifying the trains’ operational performance, their interaction with the existing railway infrastructure and analysing their compatibility with the network.
In mid-May, the European Train Control System (ETCS) will also be tested in collaboration with the infrastructure manager, to ensure optimal integration between on-board and track-side equipment.
All these activities represent key steps towards obtaining regulatory approval for the new train model. The process will be completed in December 2026, when the Hellenic Railway Regulatory Authority (RAS) and the European Union Agency for Railways (ERA) are expected to issue the certificates.
This commitment to certification forms part of Hellenic Train’s wider investment totalling 308 million euros, aimed at modernising the fleet, improving rail services and ensuring a superior travel experience for passengers.
